Tracey Raz, who still holds true to her British accent, was born in London and moved to San Diego in 1986, while Lydia Majette
hails from North Carolina. Both studied fine arts and fashion design
and met while completing their degrees in interior design in 1997.
With the realization of their complementary design outlooks, R+M joined talents in 1999 to form Raz+Majette Designs for interior design and now couture handbags. "Confidence is the hallmark of the modern woman - and it's what drives our modern designs."
The
handbag idea was born when the ladies hunted for designer handbags that
suited their needs and reflected their personality. After months of
searching with no unique results, they combined talents aside from
interiors to style their own individually, locally hand-sewn handbags. "We were continuously getting stopped by women in the street asking us where we got our bags." Finally an untapped niche for personality in a bag! We approach our handbag design in the same way we approach our interior design. "The bags just like the interiors should express who you are and make you feel great!"
Drawing on their fine arts and interior design backgrounds, as well as their
fashion industry knowledge, they uniquely
mingle color, texture and pattern to
create handbags that evoke an impression of artistic and glamorous style with one-off class.
